The in-school Chinese New Year Celebration, an integral tradition of the boys school, occurred on February 5th, 2019, and, just as the ambiance of festivity began to falter, the boys school revived the spirit of the New Year in the bay area later that week.

A clear sky spelled the end of a gloomy and downcast week. The Boy
School Residence Hall students eagerly packed the van for a trip to Cow Mountain. From the bottom, the apex seemed only slightly dotted with specks of leftover snow, yet a whole new world manifested before their eyes upon arrival.

Friday evening marked the beginning of our journey. It was pouring when we set out into the darkness of Lake County; by the time the drive ended, we found ourselves facing an elevated mountain home situated in the clouds. With two class members missing, we six sophomores had agreed to partake on a two-day retreat, with little indication of what would occur.

Chinese New Year. A day when everyone is cheerful and delighted to start of the year fresh and just throw everything back in time. As the year of dog passes, the new year of the pig comes. The first day of the new year is a day when everyone sets down a new goal and reaches for it.

Our excited freshmen class longed for the hike on Lower Cow Mountain. Individually, many of us would have ever agreed to go on this hike; yet, we managed to convince each other to embark on a class trip, and so, we went.

Today was a day of celebration, a day where we would finally be able to take a break from the tremendous load of homework, a day for us to participate in a fun, yet competitive event: White Elephant Gift Exchange.

We are focusing on one virtue each month, and since there are eight more months left in this school year, we can complete our understanding of the eight core virtues together as a school.
