. . .
Friday evening marked the beginning of our journey. It was pouring when we set out into the darkness of Lake County; by the time the drive ended, we found ourselves facing an elevated mountain home situated in the clouds. With two class members missing, we six sophomores had agreed to partake on a two-day retreat, with little indication of what would occur. Due to a lack of participants, Alec Fu (9th) also joined us.
. . .
The events were organized by alumni Justin Hu (Class of 1998) and Daron Fong (Class of 2012), with the help of San Hong Lew (12th). On the first night, we participated in an extensive group discussion, in which we opened up about our personal stories and opinions. The first night was concluded with the preparation of dumpling fillings for the following night’s dinner.

We felt full of excitement when we awoke the next morning -the sun was already up, and breakfast, already made. Justin had prepared his special dish: avocado Tofurky sandwiches with a side of tofu scramble. Once we had eaten, we were led to a remote mountain and directed to walk the six mile trail. We began hiking indefinitely, and finally reached the top after what felt like an eternity. After a discussion and another walk downhill, we returned to the house. The afternoon was filled with more teamwork building activities, and the two-day retreat was concluded with a extravagant dinner: William Wang’s (10th) delicious dumplings.

Thank you Darren Fong and San Hong Lew for helping to organize this wonderful trip for us. Special thanks to Mr. Justin Hu for letting us stay at your wonderful lake house and for making this possible for us. 🙂
