On May 7th, 2023, the IGDVBS Drumming Club went to Grace Hudson Museum for an opening performance to the 21st Annual ukiaHaiku Festival. The boys arrived early to set up the performance and were able to enjoy cookies as well as a live performance of shakuhachi by musician Karl Young. The searing sun wasn’t able to deter the crew from surveying the perimeter and appreciate the beauty of nature curated by the museum.

As the clock barely struck 2:00 p.m., the crew began getting into position, and by the cue of “Skittle” started their performance. Under the bright sun, the drummers shone both physically and metaphorically as they let their intuition guide them through the routine, transferring the beauty of the art of drumming to the audience through inspired, spontaneous yet precise movements.

After a visceral ten minutes of continuous coordination, the team dropped onto the grass to put an end to the performance. The crowd erupted in ovations, and thereby ended the boys’ day at the museum.
