The time of the year we’ve all been waiting for has finally come.
Nearing the end of the first school semester and anticipating the holidays, students and teachers of IGDVGS came together on ZOOM to celebrate with an early Christmas luncheon. Hosted and organized by the Junior class, everyone was able to enjoy fun, spirited performances along with their lunch.
The event started with vocal and instrumental performances by the Kindergarten to 6th grade students. “Jingle Bells” was performed using a mix of Western and Chinese instruments that left the audience in awe, while holiday songs such as “Joy to the World,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Silent Night,” were sung by charming and clear voices.
Following were performances by the 7th-12th grade students. The Junior High class presented an amusing skit about a disastrous Christmas gift exchange, followed by the Freshman’s impressive animation of the poem “Christmas Long Ago” by Dona M. Maroney, with their illustrations drawn by Katie Lou. The Sophomore class gave a wonderful and relatable parody and CTTB rendition of “The 12 Days of Christmas.” The poem “The Boy Who Laughed At Santa Claus” by Ogden Nash was read by the Juniors, and the Seniors parodied a hilarious holiday skit by Saturday Night Live. Activities, including an exciting scavenger hunt and a punny holiday quiz, were also prepared for guests.
The event ended with caroling by the Singing Club that was soon merrily joined by the online and in-person attendees. Despite the barrier of our screens, the warm joy of the holiday season was shared.
A big thank you to all the teachers for guiding us and giving your unconditional support during these difficult and uncertain times. Great job to all the students that have worked so hard this year! Stay safe and happy holidays to all!
