. . .

The award ceremony (June 5th) was consistent with previous years in the sense that all of the students from kindergarten to sixth grade all received certificates, and a few teachers from seventh to twelfth grade also gave out certificates. The kitchen staff — represented by Dharma Master Hong — received an expression of gratitude from everyone, and the teachers received gifts of appreciation. Next, the basketball team received their awards. A unique gift this year was given to all the students by Mr. Chris Gifford— glass marbles and hearts he had handmade with his own hard work and skill at glassblowing. Also, there was a special slideshow of videos at the beginning of the event presented by Chee Hee Seng that summarized the activities of this school year. There was also an exquisitely prepared lunch that was nothing short of amazing. At end of the day, everyone received their yearbooks, which was often hailed as the best one ever, much to the happiness of the yearbook club members.

. . .

This year’s graduation ceremony (June 6th) was unique. It was the first time it ended an hour and a half late (at 5:30 pm), despite being the graduation for the smallest class in quite a long time, with only five members. The cause for this delay was due to the great number of speakers and their long speeches. The five graduates are as follows, from oldest to youngest: Chern [Gwynn] Lim (林義仁) from Malaysia, Bangyang Qiu (邱邦陽) from China, Jacky Zheng (鄭帆) from Philadelphia, San Hong Lew (劉善弘) from Malaysia, and Chee Hee Seng (成志喜) from Malaysia. Gwynn and Chee Hee are returning to Malaysia for college, San Hong is going to Hong Kong, Jacky is going to Pennsylvania State, and Bangyang is going to UC Irvine.

The 5 Seniors and Abraham

. . .

The proceedings of the day are as follows: Dharma Master Yan began with a commencement speech, which was followed by the promotion of the 8th graders to high school. The Jerry Huang award for moral uprightness was then awarded to Gwynn Lim and Richard Shieh-Yan (謝翔任). Then, one parent of every graduate gave a speech, sharing experiences the family went through as their son spent years in the school.  Presidential awards were then given to Andrew Yan (顏近軒) from 8th grade, as well as every single senior for academic excellence. Afterwards, the High School Certificate of Proficiency was presented to Abraham Batres Wang (親良) on behalf of the President of the State Board of Education, as well as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, who then gave a sharing. Each of the seniors then gave their speeches, received their diplomas, and then sang a song: See You Again by Wiz Khalifa. Numerous students then surprised the seniors with a song composed by themselves (song details below); they had kept it a secret, and upon completion of the song, all of the seniors were in tears. The seniors also each received notes from the all the students from kindergarten to sixth grade during the song. After the event ended, students had the opportunity to take pictures with the seniors, as well as have their yearbooks signed.

. . .

The seniors each shared what they have learned through their time at the school. Gwynn talked about how much we students can learn here at school, and to treasure our time. Bangyang talked about the value behind each of our memories created here. Jacky emphasized the importance of friendship. San Hong expounded how crucial it is to hold onto our virtue. Chee Hee touched upon how vital it is to be grateful to everyone in our lives. This year’s graduation was quite remarkable and emotional, especially since every single one of the graduates cried this year. It is certainly one not to be forgotten.

INTRO
Every year, we’d sit here
Watching as the seniors come and go
Those memories, that we have held so dear
Stay in our hearts, never growing old

Time has past, you have grown
For the first time, we sit here alone
No matter where you go, no matter far or close
Today, we just wanted you to know

PRE-CHORUS
That (only say “that” for the first PRE-CHORUS)
All of the smiles, all of the tears that we’ve shared
Are timeless memories that will never disappear
And all of the hills, all of the mountains we’ve climbed
Were never as hard as saying this Goodbye.

CHORUS
To the graduating class of 2019
The greatest group of seniors we’ve ever seen
Our time together has come to an end
Have no regrets, keep the good memories
Come back to visit, we’ll always be free
We know we’ll forever be your friends.

VERSE 1 (Gwynn, Bangyang, Jacky)
Gwynn Lim, CHERN.
The nicest guy who smiles through the burns
We truly hope, that the warm Sun you love,
Will follow you any-ANY-where you go

Bangyang Qiu, b-ball guy
You have good three’s and yet you make no free’s
You always paint yourself, white as a ghost
You lasted a month in the dorm, almost

Jacky Zheng, what can I say
Never seen an attendance with so many A’s
You got the yearbook done, in just 5 days
And also, where’s your meditation grade?

PRE-CHORUS
All of the smiles, all of the tears that we’ve shared
Are timeless memories that will never disappear
And all of the hills, all of the mountains we’ve climbed
Were never as hard as saying this Goodbye.

CHORUS
To the graduating class of 2019
The greatest group of seniors we’ve ever seen
Our time together has come to an end
Have no regrets, keep the good memories
Come back to visit, we’ll always be free
We know we’ll forever be your friends.

VERSE 2 (San Hong, Chee Hee)
San Hong Lew, an old man
Whose back has prevented him from dragon dance
Zaoke every day, for a few months straight
Tried to teach a bunch of walls dizigui….

(singer wear sunglasses) Chee Hee Seng, president
He says DV and you must say BS (RESPECT!)
We must make this school, a better place.
Or all our time will go to waste.

TRANSITION
Graduation, is this year’s last event
It’s the final chance for all of us to say

CHORUS
“Lalala”
(give notes to seniors now)
CHORUS
OUTRO (CHORUS, voice only, fade out)
