This year’s CYD was hosted by the boys school on April 12^th, 2019. The event began with an early program, in which a young audience of kindergartners were given the opportunity to enjoy a variety of performances by both the Boys and Girls schools. This was then followed by the main program for an entirely new audience of older elementary school students. On top of that, unique booths offered at the girls division of the Developing Virtue Secondary School (DVSS) displayed the unique aspects of our school to a large portion of these visitors. The early and main programs combined to include over 1000 eager students, in addition to parents, teachers, and visitors.

The main program revolved around a story with numerous performances integrated within. It was a typical family of a good kid and a troublesome kid. After many experiences, their hate and jealousy became gratitude and love. They learned the importance of the virtue of kindness, and decided to spread it everywhere they go, for they became grateful for everything they had. A drop of kindness, a pool of gratitude. This was the theme and moral that the students of the audience took away from the day’s event.

The event involved many other performances as well — with students* putting in countless hours of work to plan, practice, and execute the event’s set-up, proceedings and clean-up. There were also numerous volunteers who helped cook delicious food, students who helped direct and serve kids, and teachers who helped plan and communicate. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event possible – it was one great cooperative masterpiece.

And then the two boys find their way into another world and become kings:

King Zarro of the Land of Music saved King Winnie of the Land of Magic by waking up their Great Lion. King Zarro is kidnapped by bandits, and the Great Lion saves him.

For saving his life, King Zarro is grateful, and sends his best musicians to wake up the Magnificent Dragon. King Winnie then becomes even more grateful!

The heavens were pleased, and angels (Girls Chinese Fan Dance) came down to the now-reunited kingdom to celebrate.

And just like that, the play ended. The audience, gratified, returned on their yellow school buses, and went to propagate a message: a drop of kindness, a pool of gratitude.
