On September 23, the annual Teacher’s Day celebration was held under the glistening sun and sprouting trees. The teachers and students gathered at the picnic tables, anticipating the joyful performances and delectable food.

A mouthwatering variety of main courses and side dishes were prepared by dining hall staff and the juniors, ranging from fried rice and stir fried noodles to a platter of dragon fruit and watermelon. Beautifully arranged plates piled with stuffed bell peppers, mashed potatoes, avocado slices, tomatoes, and watermelon were brought out for the teachers, along with strawberry cobbler and a grass jelly drink.

The air hummed with anticipation as the junior high students prepared for their performance, a wonderful rendition of the song “On Top of the World.” The freshmen followed with a poem they had composed, demonstrating their gratitude and appreciation toward all the teachers. The sophomore trio stunned the audience with their performance of the Totoro theme song arranged for the bamboo flute, guitar, and tambourine. Last but not least, the seniors delighted everyone with their parody of “The Nights” by Avicii.

The junior class also engaged the audience with trivia questions between performances, and at the end, the teachers participated in the “House Sorting” activity. Starting with Dr. Vega, who turned out to be a “White Tiger” and ending with Ms. Wu, a “Dragon,” each of the teachers were sorted into one of the four IGDVS Houses: Dragon, Phoenix, White Tiger, and Unicorn. Thus, the 2022 Teacher’s Day event ended with laughter and cheers.

“一日為師,終身為父。” Thank you again to all the teachers for your dedication in guiding and supporting us. We are forever grateful.
