“There is a sense that time is precious and you should enjoy and thrive in what you are doing to the hilt.”

– Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

On Thursday, September 24th, the Dharma masters, teachers, parents, and students of DVGS gathered together both in-person and online to honor and celebrate the life of a distinguished woman and leader, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Together, they acknowledged RBG’s great perseverance and many accomplishments.

The event began with a brief introduction of RBG, followed by short eulogies delivered by student, parent, and teacher speakers. Ms. Julie Finnegan, dressed as the late justice, gave a passionate and encouraging speech, reminding the new generation to act in Justice Ginsburg’s lead. Ms. Jane Applebee, a teacher here at DVGS, shared some interesting details about RBG’s legacy, as well as her own experience meeting and speaking with the late justice.

Following Ms. Applebee was Heidi Blythe (Class of 2022), who delivered an inspiring speech about how she learned of and was encouraged by Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s story. Lastly, Kaitlin Harness (Class of 2022) expressed her gratitude towards Justice Ginsberg for supporting women’s education and the profound influence she had–not only in the United States, but also across the globe–that made her the paradigm of a superhero.

Thank you Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for all you’ve done. Your life and legacy has inspired and will continue inspire people around the world.
