Mid-Autumn (Moon) Festival 2019, Friday September 13, was held by the dorm students with savoury moon cakes and desserts prepared by Mrs. Lau, as well as soda drinks offered by Mr. Chen. The dorm had a chance to socialize, playing games together, as well as watch a movie. This was an eventful day in celebration of this important tradition in Chinese culture.

On a Saturday evening, September 14, the Instilling Goodness Developing Virtue Boys Schools celebrated the annual Moon Festival. The event officially began at 5 PM. However, students and teachers alike, put in many hours of strenuous work in preparation. To them, for this important school wide activity, the Moon Festival represented not only a time of social gathering or celebration of food and music, but also the fruition of hard work. On this day, the sophomore class woke up early, set up a stage, and then rehearsed, rehearsed, and rehearsed. Mrs. Lau led a team of both parents and students in an afternoon of cooking, while other dormitory students set up a formation of tables and chairs on the basketball court along with Mr. Erick Chiang.

By 5 PM, incoming cars, exuberant children, bouncing basketballs, and clamorous chatting marked the official beginning. Young students engaged enthusiastically in various mini-games hosted by the freshmen class. Food trays holding delicious vegetarian food vanished within minutes. At around 6 PM, the play we’ve all been waiting for commenced – a combination of the traditional Moon Festival story with an Avengers: Endgame twist, mixed with humour and friendly insults. As the sun dropped below the horizon, and the round moon came into vision, students continued the tradition of the musical chairs competition, the winner of this year being elementary student Jeremiah.

. . .

As the dark seeped into the pink sky illuminated by a setting sun, families returned home, dormitory students cleaned up with the help of a few parents, and some prepared to further socialize and go stargazing. Finally, when darkness completely filled the sky, the noise ceased and tranquility prevailed once again on the Boys School basketball court.
