The 2nd–6th graders recently participated in an engaging learning experience with Yvonne Mayshark, a herbalist, exploring the many ways plants can be used in everyday life. During the session, students learned about the healing properties of various plants, carefully sketched their observations, and took detailed notes. This experience connected to their broader unit on exploring different careers and the important roles people play in their communities.

After the lesson, Mrs. Mayshark, guided students through the process of making a simple salve, giving them a hands-on understanding of how plant-based remedies are created. Students then took a walk around campus to observe and identify plants growing in their own environment. They successfully recognized lavender, poppies, rosemary, and various types of mint, deepening their appreciation for the natural world right outside their classroom.

Special thanks to Mrs. Mayshark for the workshop and to Mrs. Miao for organizing it.
