On February 27, 2025, it was a clear, sunny day when IGDVBS celebrated Black History Month.  There were plays, drumming, and fun activities as the students, parents, and teachers watched on.

The event began with an energetic performance by the 2-4th grade students, showcasing their African Drumming and dance skills. This was followed by an inspiring play presented by the 5th to 8th graders, which centered around the Dred Scott court case in 1857. The play depicted the real-life story of Dred Scott, an enslaved African American man who courageously took his fight for freedom to the United States Supreme Court. His fight for freedom was an inspiration to all people fighting for justice and equality.

Students from 2nd to 6th grade then performed another play, celebrating Juneteenth and singing several songs, including ‘Wade In The Water’. This play explored the history and cultural importance of this important date in American history, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

Finally, the event concluded with food enjoyed by the students, parents, and teachers.
