Excited laughter and music floated through the windows of Wonderful Words Hall on Thursday, May 16, 2024, where rapper and educator Nimo Patel and several other ServiceSpace members were invited to Instilling Goodness Developing Virtue School to lead a school assembly. With the theme of ‘Are You a Superhero?’, Nimo led fun chants, uplifting songs, and shared unique stories to surprise and entertain the students, while at the same time teaching what it means to be virtuous and lend a helping hand.

Nimo’s unique story captivated many students. Originally graduating from University of Pennsylvania and achieving success on Wall Street, he left it all behind to help children in India’s slum communities and dedicate his life to service. He founded Empty Hands Music, composing songs to uplift and promote human unity, and became involved with many grassroots organizations like ServiceSpace, which aim to promote the spirit of service and generosity to make the world a better place.

Before the assembly, IGDVS students had drawn chalk art outside the hall, spreading messages of kindness through Nimo’s lyrics. Colorful renditions and drawings welcomed Nimo and the ServiceSpace members, as well as Jin Chuan Shr and Jin Wei Shr, to the excited audience. Inside, candles and flowers were arranged in an expression of unity, with handmade gifts from the students. This IGDVS superhero assembly was marked by Nimo’s infectious enthusiasm and constant stream of happiness, as he led the students in self-composed songs, dances, and fun activities.

After the assembly, Nimo joined the students for lunch to answer questions and discuss more about his life and work. The students learned a lot from his experiences.

Special thanks to ServiceSpace, Nimo Patel, Jin Chuan Shr, and Jin Wei Shr for creating this special opportunity for IGDVS!
