The Mendocino County Office of Education (MCOE) is delighted to announce the approval of the Young Authors’ Fair grant for IGDVS. This is a nature poetry writing and publishing project. The initiative aims to nurture students’ creativity and literary skills while fostering a deep appreciation for nature.
Under the guidance of Ms. Yidan Wang, who skillfully coordinated the entire process, students from Kindergarten through 6th grade immersed themselves in the beauty of nature and explored their poetic and writing talents. The project not only encouraged artistic expression but also facilitated connections between students, their peers, and the wider world.

A highlight of the project was the culminating poetry recitation and reception held on May 31st, where students had the opportunity to showcase their work alongside teachers and students. The event was not just a celebration of creativity but also a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

In addition to the poetry writing, students participated in an art competition to design the cover and back page of the poetry book. This added a visual dimension to their literary creations, making the final publication a true masterpiece of both words and images.

The culmination of this project was marked by the publication of a beautiful poetry book, which was generously shared with members of the community, teachers, and every elementary school student. This act of sharing not only celebrated the achievements of the young authors but also spread their creativity and love for poetry far and wide.
Through initiatives like the Young Authors’ Fair, MCOE continues to enrich the educational experience of students, encouraging them to explore their passions and express themselves creatively. This project not only nurtured budding writers but also instilled in them a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of nature and the power of poetry.

Special thanks to MCOE, Ms. Yidan Wang, Ms. Julia Mark, elementary school teachers, and students, for making this project a resounding success and for inspiring us all with your creativity, dedication, and passion.
