Haiku is a form of poetry originating from Japan that contains three lines. The first line contains 5 syllables, the second line consisting of 7 syllables, and lastly the third line with 5 more syllables.
Filled with excitement and creativity, on January 30th, IGDVS hosted a “Haiku Slam”. Students from Kindergarten to 12th grade gathered in a circle at Wonderful Words Hall and shared their own creative Haiku that they prepared.

Students took charge and stood up confidently when they wanted to share and recited their poems out loud to everyone. “I was nervous at first, however, as other people presented their haiku, I gained my confidence back, and dared to present my Haiku in front of everyone.” Angela Eng (6th grade) remarks after the event. From the cute and hilarious haiku to the haiku filled with imagery and intricate meanings, everyone enjoyed listening to each other’s creative works.

Thank you to all that have joined us for this event! We hope that this becomes a tradition for the IGDVS community in the years to come!
