On January 19th, IGDVS students eagerly gathered at Wonderful Words Hall to show their passion towards poetry. Over the past months, the students spent time preparing for this event—picking poems that have special meaning to them and learning the poem by heart by practicing. 

“I practiced in front of the mirror,” said Cherry Ngo, one of the winners from this year. Through looking into the mirror, she was able to improve her confidence in public speaking and perfected her facial expressions to her poems. 

Congratulations to Katherine Wang, Cherry Ngo (Class of 2024), William Shi, Alan Liang (Class of 2026), and Hannah Cheng (Class of 2027), as top five finalists of the school’s 2024 Poetry Out Loud Competition— with Cherry Ngo, William Shi, Alan Liang, and Hannah Cheng, and Katherine Wang moving on to represent the school at the Mendocino County Poetry Out Loud competition.
