Blooming Kindness: Storytelling and Friendship Bracelets

By Yidan Wang, IGDVS Teacher

Instilling Goodness Developing Virtue School recently organized a heartwarming event “Blooming Kindness: Living in Harmony” at the Ukiah Library. We hope to intertwine the magic of storytelling, the creativity of arts and crafts, and teach valuable virtues to young minds of our community. This event aimed to cultivate virtues of kindness and friendship. Children of different ages gathered to be part of an enriching experience.

The Nine-Colored Deer read aloud by Ms. Guathan Chuah, an elementary school teacher, transported the children into a world of empathy and compassion, as they listened to an enchanting tale that highlighted the profound impact of small acts of kindness. The story resonated with the young audience; leaving a lasting impression on their hearts and minds. Following the storytelling, the children enthusiastically created friendship bracelets. They gave the bracelets to their friends and said “Thank you for being my friend.”

The Ukiah Library event exemplifies Instilling Goodness Developing Virtue School’s commitment to holistic education that extends beyond the traditional classroom. By blending storytelling with arts and focusing on kindness, the school created an immersive experience that reinforced essential core virtues. As the children proudly wore their friendship bracelets, they carried with them not just colorful accessories but also a profound understanding of the power of kindness. The IGDVS community continues to inspire youth to become compassionate and socially conscious individuals, making a positive impact in the world around them.

Please join us for the upcoming storytelling sessions. Special thanks to the Mendocino County Ukiah Branch Library for this wonderful collaboration!
