“3, 2, 1, Drop!” shouted the eager students. Two weeks of designing, revising, and planning culminated in the highly anticipated egg drop challenge. These young engineers opted to use plastic eggs and water balloons instead of the conventional raw egg for this famous challenge.

In collaborative teams of 3-4, students worked creatively to craft their ultimate egg carrier. They were able to assemble safe egg carriers that could withstand the challenge using materials such as cardboard, plastic bags, string, felt, styrofoam, bubble wrap, straw and tape.

The objective was clear: design an egg carrier that would protect a plastic egg or a water balloon from cracking or popping dropped from a two story building. 

In the end, many of our budding engineers were successful in achieving their testable goal, nurturing a learning spirit that drives them to modify the variables, and trying the challenge again.
