Matilda in SPACE: A Thrilling Musical Celebration

On Sunday October 5th, the Boys’ School visited SPACE Theater for the last show of Matilda The Musical, a refreshing adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic novel.

“I should’ve worn long pants, its cold in here.”

– Jevon Ji (10)

The boys followed one another into the auditorium and marveled at its majestic beauty. The ceiling lights softly illuminated the venue, easing the audience into the environment before they started to dim for the play. Witty, humourous, heartwarming and emotional, the performers gave their all and conjured from the venue nonstop ovations.

“The actors’ performances were so accurate and really funny.”

– Puze Gong (11)

Esteban Orozco, an ensemble cast member who had been involved with such productions as Shrek The Musical and The Lion King remarked that working on Matilda was a “tiring but fun” process that required “a lot of work.” The play’s Assistant Director Joni McLeod, who also played Matilda’s gentle and caring teacher Ms. Honey, revealed that Matilda was SPACE’s first community theater project. It had been in the works for over a year before the actors transformed one month of rehearsals into two weekends of magnificent performances.

Special thanks to Mr. Pegan, Mr. Kellerman, and Mr. Plante for organizing our trip, as well as the cast and crew at SPACE for their enthusiasm and generosity throughout our visit. If you are interested in attending shows, registering for a class in Performance Arts, or auditioning for future projects, visit SPACE’s Official Website.
