As the school day drew to a close, exciting murmurs and the homey scent of cooking food wafted through the air. With a promise of laughter-filled games and joyful memories, the DVGS students cheerfully awaited the beginning of the annual ASB Welcome Back party.
Excitement pervaded the crisp evening air as flavorful miso ramen, pan-fried Beyond patties, pitchers of refreshing winter melon tea, and platters of juicy watermelon, strawberries, and pineapple were carried out, freshly made, by the juniors and seniors.
Bonding over the scrumptious meal, the students didn’t even notice that an hour had slipped by, and soon, it was time for games. First, they played several exhilarating rounds of limbo which encouraged teamwork and filled the air with cheers and laughter.
Next, the students moved to the back lawn of the school, where a life-sized board game awaited. It was a special twist on the traditional ASB scavenger hunt, with the treasure actually buried in the ground, and missions and battles that the teams had to complete to advance on the “board.” With each roll of the giant dice, the four teams moved closer to the dig spots scattered throughout the course, under one of which lay the treasure.
As the night progressed, smiles widened and the students became more and more comfortable with each other. When the sun sank below the horizon, they made their way inside the school to continue bonding through music, dance, card games, and chatter.
A new memory created together, the ASB Welcome Back party ended with happy goodbyes and a lingering promise of more unforgettable memories to come in the new school year.
