āIām so grateful for the sun that keeps us warm,ā a freshman beamed as the students and teachers of DVGS went around sharing what they were grateful for.
It was a brisk autumn morning and a light wind blew through the trees surrounding a group of homely wooden tables, set with gleaming white plates and decorated with dainty sprigs of flowers. The mouth-watering aroma of smoked kebab wafted over from the barbecue grill, and the students, who were dressed up in warm, formal attire, were all in good spirits.
Pretty soon, the teachers were served and the students began lining up at the buffet table, which was piled with delicious rolls, baked potatoes, tofu, homemade tomato soup, pumpkin pies, cookies, and more. As they savored the bountiful food, the sound of lighthearted chatter blended with upbeat background music.

After the hearty meal, the sophomores gathered everyone to learn a fun partner dance that lifted the mood before commencing the most anticipated activity of the day ā karaoke! Students took turns choosing songs as they jammed to their favorite beats in English, Chinese, and even Japanese. They sang until their voices were hoarse and everyone had a blast.
We would like to thank all our wonderful teachers and staff who have made this year possible during the pandemic, as well as the sophomores for hosting and the junior high for helping prepare the food. Special thanks to Mr. Chiem for operating the barbecue grill!
