The morning’s snow left traces of dew across the surface of the serene environment as the surviving water droplets took refuge upon the hushed leaves. Winter’s breath permeated all traces of warmth. Hence, a cup of hot chocolate is just about perfect for the chilly weather. With that being the case, the Compassionate Chocolate Crew (CCC) came to the scene for action.
The CCC project consists of members from a variety of service clubs: Community Service Club, Caring Kitchen, and Karma Kitchen. This collaboration’s mission was to spread kindness through the community by handing out homemade vegan hot chocolate. And the cost? Well, no need because there is really no price to kindness; it’s complimentary!
On the 10th of February, the students cheerfully promoted the project to passing cars and pedestrians by advertising colorful posters decorated with “COMPASSIONATE CHOCOLATE CREW” and “FREE KINDNESS CHOCOLATE” on it. The bright smiles and enthusiastic voices of the students echoed through the air and welcomed people in Ukiah. As each cup of hot chocolate was given, a smile was returned. The smiles were contagious. Everyone was like a mirror, reflecting each others’ friendly gesture. The warmth shared by both the receivers and the givers, numbed the cold that chimed in from the outside.
