The DVBS Residence Hall students, some disgruntled and some cheerful, were woken up on a pouring Saturday morning, the first day of December, at 8:00AM to go to Lake Mendocino and clean up littered waste. On the 15-minute car ride, some hoped for it to continue raining, while others silently wished for the sky to clear. As it turned out, the rain stopped as soon as we reached the lake. Students filed out the van as some people “looked forwards” to the 10:00 finish line of the cleanup project.

However, all of the disappointment soon disappeared. Each handed a bucket and trash-picking stick, the students were told to walk along the shore scouting for leftover bottles, cigarettes, and other trash. As the serene lake manifested below scattered rays of sunlight, students joined together in groups, cheerfully chatting as they worked hard to help the environment. As if out of auspiciousness, the downpour immediately resumed after 10:00.
