Heart Pins Project

by Iris and QQ (Junior High), 2016

The school had adopted the idea of making heart pins, each one meticulously cut, stuffed, and sewn by hand. They were given away to everyone at the May 20th Cherishing Youth event, to children in Ukiah, and to the homeless.

As a school, from junior high to seniors, we made more than 1000 heart pins. In each heart, the students had put their best effort and dedication filled with love and care, for the sake of letting everyone know that no one is an outcast, but a tree connected with branches. To define this message of kindness to others, students came together to make these cloth hearts from scratch. Each small heart pin is a savvy present that proudly says “no one is alone.”
