Elders have given us so much, so what can we do for them in return? That was the question we were posed with. “Perhaps we could perform for them”, we thought.

Arriving in Sacramento the preceding morning, the Lion, Dragon, and Drumming Clubs unpacked their belongings, and prepared for the rehearsals of their respective performances. Hours passed before the tiresome rehearsal ended. As the night dawned upon them, the students would temporarily cast aside their fear     inadvertent failure on performance day     and relax. The ambient sounds of conversation could be heard as the hard workers, having received generous donations of snacks and beverages, joyfully concluded Day 1.

6:00. Eight hours of sleep had already passed. Today, bearing the colours of red and white, the usually navy-uniformed students of DVBS were no longer so. Today, prepared and undaunted, the lions, dragons, and drummers would continue to deliver a spectacular show for the elders, who not only enjoyed the DVBS performance, but those of other groups as well. In accordance with tradition, respected Dharma Master Heng Shr Shr gave a speech discussing the importance of elderly respect, followed by musical renditions of The Standards for Students, The Dharma Wheel, and The Triple Jewel performed by CDR-IGDVS.

The day quickly passed. Back to their usual selves, the club members safely returned home. “A successful performance,” we hope.

Thank you Mr. Justin Hu, Ms. Ackley, Mr. Brant, and Ms. Clarke for transporting for and organizing the event.
