Gift Wrapping: Sharing Kindness and Joy

Celine Huang (Class of 2020)

On December 13, 2016, 8th and 9th graders of Developing Virtue Girls School gift wrapped toys for children at a center in Ukiah called Mendocino County AIDS/Viral Hepatitis Network.[1] There were toys waiting to be wrapped for children of different ages. The gift wrapping experience was an experience we will never forget.

“It felt good, knowing that I was helping,” said 9th grader Michelle. As Mother Teresa said, the greatest good is what we do for one another.” Another freshman Emily also mentioned, “We learned to dedicate what we had to make others happy.” Using your goodness for others is a lifelong present for the person receiving it and yourself. It benefits yourself, as freshman Celine reflected, “I learned how to gift wrap.”

All in all, the students enjoyed this opportunity to spread kindness to others. We wish everyone happy holidays!

[1] The center provides services and comfort to persons and families affected by HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and the co-occurring disorders of mental illness and substance abuse.
